一、認證背景
　　1989年，印度交通部頒布了《中央機動車法案》(Central Motor Vehicles Rules,簡稱CMVR),根據CMVR法案的規定，汽車整車，零部件，農林機械，工程機械，發電機組等產品都必須要通過其認可的實驗室的認證才能出口到印度.

二、認證范圍
　　機動車整車：摩托車、乘用車、客車、貨車、掛車、道路工程機械等
　　機動車零部件：安全玻璃、喇叭、車輪、安全帶、燈具、車燈等
三、認證機構
　　根據印度中央機動車法案(CMVR)，出口到印度的汽車安全零部件都必須由印度交通部認可的實驗室進行符合性測試并簽發型式認證證書，實驗室直接受理認證申請、測試、工廠審核并直接頒發型式認證證書，交通部不參與認證工作。
四、標準制定
　　印度標準局(BIS)：頒布印度國家標準(IS標準)，同時也是BIS認證的唯一認證機構
　　AISC標準委員會：制定印度汽車行業標準(AIS標準)。ARAI(印度機動車研究協會)是AISC委員會主席單位，也是標準起草單位。
　　印度的汽車產品標準有兩類，IS標準和AIS標準。
　　強制認證的IS標準和AIS標準由印度交通部公布。
五、標識要求
　　按照印度AIS標準規定，出口至印度的零部件都必須打上如下標識：

a	產品商標或廠家標識
b	出廠編號
c	型式批準號(按印度標準，車門鎖和油箱不要求打AIS標識)
d	各零部件標準所要求的標識
